Personal Investments • How to invest Non-emergency but semi-liquid money

Hi folks,
Have about 45k $ that we have saved up for emergency reserves.
Have another 60k $ in Roth IRA (in Total market index Fund) that can be pulled in for extreme circumstances.
With a mortgage , child and recent loss of job scare and current market situations in my sector, I would like to be conservative with my liquid (non-retirement investments).
And we probably want to bump that reserve 70k.
That said, I am bit uneasy for keeping this amount of money just sitting in cash.
I am trying to find the best way keep atleast some of that money ( 30-40k out of 70k) invested in some fixed income assets.
I have never bought I-bonds, cds etc, and don't know whether money market fund at a local bank is the best way to go.
Or, should I look at buying some short-term/intermediate bonds.
How should I approach this?
